Personal Growth As A Student
As a freshman, I was a stress ball all the time. I was constantly trying to be perfect and I often pushed myself to hard without allowing for any relaxation time. Additionally, I was still stuck with this middle school idea that it actually mattered what I looked like or what my peers though of my appearance. Toward the end of freshman year, I began to grow into a more confident student overall. By the beginning of sophomore year, I was a new person because of my experiences at Animas High School. I began to allow myself moments of relaxation and began to realize that not every paper had to be perfect. I still refined my work and challenged myself in all aspects of my learning, but I began to loosen the reigns on the unattainable image of perfection. Also, I completely stopped caring about what people thought of me. I began to dress to be comfortable instead of squeezing myself into skinny jeans to please the public. I even allowed myself to reveal the true dork behind my intelligent facade. As it turns out, it is much more rewarding to simply live to be happy with yourself than to constantly work to appear the way your peers want you to. Through letting go of my uptight perfectionism and attachment to social status, I cleared the path for a confident young adult. Of course I still have many things to learn and many obstacles to face, but in this moment as a sophomore, I am happy with the person I have become.
